Conwest believes in strong collaborative relationships with the communities we operate in. Over the years, we have built a record of successful engagement and partnerships, working closely with stakeholders, First Nations, and municipal and provincial governments to create developments that benefit everyone involved. Our approach is guided by values of respect, transparency and collaboration, ensuring that every project we undertake reflects the needs of the community.
Hammond Industrial by Conwest is no exception. We have and continue to maintain an open dialogue with the Maple Ridge community and the Katzie First Nation to ensure that this development contributes positively to the local economy while honouring the region’s heritage and values.
The Hammond Industrial project by Conwest proposes the development of approximately 550,000 square feet of new modern industrial space on this M-2 General Industrial zone site. This space will provide a range of uses, including manufacturing, service, wholesale distribution, and processing. This development will be a key economic driver for the region, supporting up to 500 jobs and offering opportunities for businesses in Maple Ridge to thrive.
The historic Hammond Mill site has been a local economic driver and job-creating part of the community since 1908. The Mill closed operation in 2019, and this project represents a revitalization of a decommissioned industrial site, helping address the critical shortage of industrial space in Metro Vancouver.
The Hammond Industrial development responds directly to the pressing shortage of industrial land in Metro Vancouver. This increase in business activity will significantly enhance the local tax base, generating additional revenue that can be invested in public services and infrastructure. The development benefits the entire community, providing the opportunity to reinvigorate the waterfront and helping to ensure long-term economic resilience in the area.

Located on the banks of the Fraser River, Hammond Industrial by Conwest will include comprehensive flood protection measures to safeguard the site and be part of the flood protection plan for the Hammond community. As the river’s levels continue to rise, Conwest has prioritized elevating the site by adding approximately two metres of clean fill, ensuring the development meets provincial standards.
A Watercourse Protection Development Permit is required by the City of Maple Ridge for any new development within 50m of a water feature, including streams, wetlands, ponds, or ditches, to establish the preservation, protection, restoration and enhancement of watercourse and riparian areas. Conwest received its Watercourse Protection Development Permit for the Hammond site from the City of Maple Ridge on January 23, 2023. Working together with Qualified Environmental Professionals and Municipal Environmental Staff, we have created this riparian area, which will be planted with native plants to ensure the preservation and protection of riparian areas and watercourses.

The Streamside Protection and Enhancement Area (SPEA) area for the Hammond site is characterized by:
